09:00 Lecture Doctor-patient-communication - new concepts of teaching and learning

Doctor-patient-communication - new concepts of teaching and learning.
Studies have shown some evidence that communication skills trainings are effective to improve doctors' future work. The lecture will give a short overview on relevant literature and give some examples how to implement successful communication curricula in medical education.

10:15 Workshop 2a Kommunikative und soziale Kompetenzen - von der Theorie zur Praxis

Communicative and social competencies - from theory to practice
Planning and implementing a communication curriculum in medical education starts with the definition of theoretical backgrounds, competencies, and educational objectives students have to achieve. These lead to a blueprint for teaching and learning tools, and assessment. The workshop gives the opportunity to discuss existing consensus statements on how to implement a communication curriculum. The participants will develop a first draft of a communication curriculum and explore the relevance for their own teaching environment.

10:15Workshop 2b Team-Based Learning

Team-Based Learning is a well-defined instructional strategy that is beeing employed increasingly in medical education. This approach allows a single instructor to manage multiple small groups simultaneously in one classroom and has the potential to promote active, small group, interactive learning without requiring large numbers of faculty facilitators. The structure of the team-based learning sequence fosters a very high level of content learning by giving students several passes at increasing their understanding of the course material. The first pass occurs at the level of individual study of the material before class activities, a task for which they are held accountable on the first individual test. Then, during the four steps of the Readiness Assurance Process, students increase their understanding by trying to answer questions individually and through group discussion, reviewing the assigned readings to make appeals, and receiving additional focused input from the instructor being an expert in his field.

10:15Workshop 2c Praxisnahe Ausbildung, ausbildungsnahe Praxis

15:30 Workshop 3b Teaching clinical medicine in the 21st century - Introducing leadership

Leadership - the art of being an inspiring team leader - is gaining more and more importance, not only in management sciences but also in medicine. Doctors on every level, from the first training posts up to the high ranks will have to direct, supervise and motivate teams, be it nursing staff, students, other doctors or even hospital managers. How can we introduce these essential skills in medical education early on and train future doctors to be effective team leaders? This will be the issue of the workshop led by Doz. Dr. Stephan Golashewsky and Dr. Klaus-Dieter Kieslinger, clinical teachers at the Paracelsus Private Medical University Salzburg.
